Interview Questions

“What is your role in the Deep Roots festival?”

“Why did Deep Roots originate?”,

“Has it at all made an impact on the culture of Milledgeville?”

“Is there a reason why it takes place so close to the university?”

:”Has Deep Roots held true to its original vision?”

“Would anything happen if Deep Roots didn’t happen anymore?”

“Have you observed any trend among the participants or attendees of Deep Roots over the past twelve years?”

“Do you believe the identity of  individuals of the town to be impacted by Deep Roots?”

“”How is the musical guest chosen for the annual festival?”

“Do you have any additional anecdotes of the festival that you’d like to share?”

  1. Looks like some good questions! I’m glad we’re posting these as it helps a lot to see what other people are asking. I’m wondering if you’ve started your IRB approval process yet? Good luck on your project!

  2. Yes, finally, and just before our spring break! I was afraid I would have to wait another week for them to come back. They decided it was exempt from the more rigorous requirements. If you need any help, or an example of a consent form (they made sure I included EVERYTHING possible, haha) just let me know 🙂

    1. An example of a consent form would be wonderful! Thanks friend!!! I am so glad that it worked out!!! Mine was exempt as well (and I think they were getting annoyed that I so wanted them to give me what I didn’t need lol)!

  3. I know you’ve said you were worried about your questions, but these are great–they are open enough to elicit the answer you’re looking for without restricting the interviewee (i.e., they may tell you more information than you expected, which I have found opens up the interview and allows you as the researcher/interviewer to explore topics you didn’t know to ask about). The only thing I would say is you might want to reword some of them, just slightly. For example, “To what extent has Deep Roots impacted the culture of Milledgeville?” (Hopefully these comments are not too late… I’m just now remembering you saying that you’ve been talking to people over the past few weeks, but I wasn’t sure how ‘official’ the interviews were or if you recorded them yet). Anyway, best of luck!

    1. Thank you very much Drew! I ended up rewording and adding quite a few questions here and there! Your feedback on here and in class is very helpful!!!

      1. Thanks, Alexa (Lexi? …I’m all confused)! I really appreciate that. I might say the same to you–you were knocking it out of the park yesterday. Everybody brings such different perspectives to our class discussions (who’da thunk?! It’s not like we’re all different majors who live in different states or anything) so that really helps me kind of recontextualize everything and has been a lot of fun. Though, as I’ve said before, I’m probably just a nerd. 😀

        1. #nerdpower We are the best kind of people! Our class dynamic is really interesting! By the by, my nickname is Lexi, but my given name is Alexa! Sorry for the confusion! 😉
